Racial Dislocation is one of the six main strategies designed and used by Racist Man and Racist Woman to produce Maximum Sophisticated Confusion. Specifically, the purpose of Racial Dislocation is to keep non-white people “on the move”. Racial Dislocation keeps Victims of Racism in a continuous state of confusion and stress. This state means they are more likely to have neither the will nor ability to replace White Supremacy with Justice.

He’s rapping in Garifuna, an Arawak language. Obviously, over the centuries, it’s picked up influences from other languages (I think Jamaican Patois, Spanish, Carib, etc…), but still a Native language spoken by Native people who are proudly indígena y africano.

Garifuna/Garinagu was probably the hardest language for me to pick up, but I’d like to go back to Livingston again. How to describe Livingston? Guatemalans from other parts of the country travel to Livingston to “see” these black guatemalans and to get their hair braided. There are a lot of black Americans of Garifuna descent who roam the streets with NY baseball caps and different hairstyles, who bring U.S. influences to their relatives who live there.

Unfortunately, the Garifuna are facing an uphill battle with Guatemala’s increasingly popular “charter cities” and the need to push the Garifuna off their land in order to sell it to rich businessmen. To learn more about the Garifuna’s land struggles, please visit OFRANEH’s website!

^^^^This. Land issues for Garifuna are so, so horrendous. And, I think, it’s another symptom of anti-black racism that their indigeneity, personhood, and thus, right to land is challenged the way it is. Garifuna are people who haven’t tried to de-Black themselves like other indigenous groups in the Americas. And their Blackness is used against them to say they DON’T have land rights. They DON’T have legit claims to “sovereignty” and it’s really such a familiar scenario for Black communities all over.
